I am quite fortunate to have the very articulate and respectful journalist – Mikey Hirano Culross – write an article about my participation in Nisei Week this year.
I moved to Little Tokyo from Hong Kong five years back – and I actually discovered that the area even existed way back in 2002 when dreaming of Japanese gardens in Montreal (where we had none). And so I scoped out the New Otani Hotel, and hoped to visit it one day – perhaps on a trip to LA. Little did I know that I would end up spending a month in the “garden suite” at the New Otani years later, before settling on Little Tokyo as my home.
It was Mikey Hirano Culross who first photographed my work for Rafu Shimpo 3 years back and it’s fitting that as he introduced my work publicly to the Little Tokyo, and Japanese community – that he should also be the person to explain (and quite well) – a little of my history, my work and my ideas in the Nisei Week Edition of Rafu Shimpo.
