Here are some long awaited pics from our recent tradeshow at Magic (Las Vegas) – we were at the “Pool” section which is where I’ve planted myself for the last 8 years or so (as well as Project on occasion).

D’Anconia, KokeKokko & Dan Sung Sa on “The Layover” (∩_∩)

A few months back, I received a call from my good friend who runs Dan Sung Sa in LA’s Koreatown.

Dan Sung Sa’s got a dark, alluring, underground feel to it along with some amazing food. Called a “Pojangmacha”, (similar to a Japanese Izakaya) and named after one of Korea’s classic movie houses – it’s one of the few restaurant/pubs in LA that feels like you’re actually in Asia…or to put it another way…Liberated! Free from all the social climber/celeb/hipsters you see everywhere else. People come here to laugh, eat, cry, kiss, punch, drink and not in that order.

I recommend the spicy BBQ pork ribs, seafood pancake, grilled rice cakes with spicy sauce, the Lemon Soju (of course) and other things I can’t pronounce – kamsamidah. (^～^;)ゞ

Anyway, I was asked to come by because they were apparently filming a show starring some food-guy that I had never heard of (I don’t own a TV), named Anthony Bourdain. I rushed over as she wanted some regulars (and one lone white face!) to be filmed for the episode (incidentally, unless I’m blind – they cut me out of all the scenes they filmed so you never actually see me except in these pics lol). (btw, he never finished that seafood pancake and I was dying to take it away)

(Bourdain doing the autograph thing. As I don’t bug celebs, I didn’t bother to talk to him – how rude! Now that I’ve watched the show, I wish that I would have – he is kind of similar to me in some ways…opinionated, aggressive, witty, hungry!)

A couple weeks later I get an email from a show called “The Layover”, and they explained that they saw my art at my other MAIN hangout – KokeKokko, and wanted to feature it on the show (albeit for a few seconds). I put 2 and 2 together and got 6! No. I realized that when they left Dan Sung Sa, they must have headed over to Koke where I usually would have been on that particular night.

The whole thing was quite odd. My two favorite restaurants in LA both featured on Anthony’s show, and they in turn liked the art that I had created. 6 degrees of Kevin Bacon or in this case…medium rare chicken breast (Toriwasa). Awesome food as always…Michael Cardena’s chefs do an outstanding job…great Asian-fusion…and now I have some gold inside of me…

Kobe beef something? I need to pay more attention! In any case, it was very tasty.

Ok, not the best but that’s what you get when you take photos of yourself with an iphone. My eyeball looks like it’s about to explode out of my face! lol
